unexpected pleasures
Feb. 2nd, 2008 08:28 pmI just had a really lovely seafood dinner, for not too much money ($42 inclusives of 2 entrees and appetizer, 2 pints of good beer and tip) in a grocery store.
yes, a grocery store.
The local Whole Foods in Fair Lakes. I've dined there before, by way of grazing of the "hot food to go" steam tables, but this was much different. The service is a tad slow when they're busy, but really for the price? You can't beat it. I had a nice big piece of salmon stuffed w/ crab imperial. (*good* crab imperial) J got a a very nummy fish and chips. We also got freshly fried calamari. The kitchen is open and right in front of you. The eating-off-the-bar-crowd is pleasantly sociable. *G*
The beers (Dogfish Head's indian brown ale and Bell's Hopslam) were all of $3 a *pint*. Whoo boy. We had to "shop it off" afterwards, but so worth it.
And we gave in and had wee servings of gelato afterwards. Upshot: slow service in the busy times, grocery store ambiance, but *very* fresh & tasty, and a price that could not be beat.
we'll be back.
